NSC (National Savings Certificate) is a 5-year fixed-income Govt scheme with current 7.7% p.a. interest, eligible for 80C deduction up to ₹1.5 lakh.
Formula
A = P × (1+r)^5 — interest compounded annually but paid only at maturity.
Example
₹1,00,000 NSC @ 7.7% → maturity ≈ ₹1,44,902 after 5 years.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is NSC interest tax-free?
No — interest is taxable, but for first 4 years it is reinvested and qualifies for 80C deduction. Final year interest is fully taxable.
